update for Washington state
Just letting everyone know the UWMC autonomic clinic, with its famous waitlist, has hired a fellow and an additional MD. I am a Medicaid patient who went from being quoted a 1-2 year wait to being scheduled for next week.
There are some factors that could have made a difference for me - I had a medical event in July and established with general neurology who has consulted with the autonomic clinic for me since then.
They are also emphasizing their role as a consult clinic; whether this was always the case or they are priming expectations is not something I know. The way this was explained to me is that there will be an extensive intake and you leave with a plan, unless you need more followup, then followup is 3-6 months out evaluating your response to treatment.
The treatment plan will primarily be managed by PCP but PCP can consult autonomic neurology on your behalf (it doesn't sound like patients will have direct access to the autonomic clinic and I think that is to help this waitlist situation).
If you have been waiting a long time, I'd recommend checking back in about your ability to be scheduled. As a reminder I don't work there, I'm just a patient, but I like to pass along info when I can.
