Companies still not sharing salary ranges

Since the summer a new law states that salary ranges must be shared in job openings. Although they dont necessarily need to make them public, but they must share with candidates at some point of the hiring process companies - including HR training and consultancy firms- dont! And then at the interview ask you “what’s your salary expectations” before sharing the range. How do you deal with it? I typically ask them well whats your range? Some share when asked, as they are aware of the law re salary transparency -yet hope you don’t- others have said “we don’t know” (right 😝) or it depends (bs). Other smart-asses ask you on the application form..Whats your experience and how do you handle it?
