I saw an argument that people who focus on this case and express concern for the influences on future postpartum related mental health practices & precedence for future cases of filicide- are misogynistic because they act as if woman are the ones who are always killing their kids when in reality, men kill their kids more than women do.
Basically saying that this level of outrage only exists because she’s a woman; men kill their kids all the time so they don’t get the same media attention as Lindsay is.

I wanted to look into those numbers. I found this comprehensive study on the number of filicide incidents from 1999-2023. https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.1177/08862605261444011
Then I used the same National Incident Based Reporting System to look up the number of homicides within that same amount of time.

Women commit filicide almost as much as men:
\- Men (filicide): \~55%
\- Women (filicide): \~45%

But when you compare all forms of homicide, the percent of women plummets in comparison to men:
\- Men (homicide): \~87%
\- Women (homicide): \~13%

It’s interesting to me, as a woman myself, to see women are over-represented in cases of filicide in a nearly 1:1 ratio, when reasonably, rates of filicide would follow the same ratio of all homicides, which would make closer to 1:9.

Comparing rates of women vs men who commit filicide & rates of women vs men who commit all forms of homicide
