Any insight into how HR handles pay compression for direct managers in AWM?

Looking for credible insight into how HR ideally within the AM business would view a situation where a manager is responsible for hiring, training, and supervising an associate whose base salary is approximately $15K–$20K higher than their own? Would they make the correction?
