Need advice for my mint chocolate chip cake

So I plan on making a layered mint chocolate chip cake using a devils food cake recipe but can't decide on the frosting so I'm turning to you guys! What do you think would be better?

1. American buttercream flavored with peppermint extract

2. Whipped cream with similar melted mint chocolate chip ice cream folded in- I can bump up the mint flavor with the extract if the ice cream is not enough
