Hey everyone,

I’ve been working on a side project called **Obvra**.

I started working on it in 2021. Documentating the development on Youtube but never advertised it or made it into a public app. I would just build new features and kept Youtube as the development diary. In 2024, I decided to go all in and spent 2 years polishing it and here we are now.

Obvra is my attempt at making gameplay testing more visual and easier to deal with.

**How it works:**

**Record:** You record yourself completing a gameplay task normally. Obvra captures the clicks, keyboard input, image/video, screen changes, and what you interacted with.

**AI interpretation:** After recording, it analyzes the session and tries to understand the actual behavior rather than just replaying what coordinates what was clicked, what the expected result was, and what visual state mattered. That would be a simple macro which it is not.

**Reusable tests:** The recording can then be turned into a repeatable test with visual target detection, expected-result validation, evidence, run history, and failure tracking.

**AI Play:** There’s also a more autonomous mode where you can give Obvra a goal and let it observe the current screen, decide what to do, interact with the game, and verify whether it made progress.

**Engine-independent:** One of the main goals was to keep it visual, so it isn’t tied to Unity, Unreal, or a specific game engine. If Obvra can see and interact with the application, the same system can theoretically be used across desktop games, web games, and other visual software.

I built the underlying automation system over the last couple of years, and Obvra is basically the QA/testing-focused version of that work.

There’s a free **Capture** version for recording and analyzing gameplay, while automated execution and AI Play are part of the paid Desktop plans.

The free version does still cost me but it's at the expense of allowing users to at least explore the fundamentals and see how it works.

**My thoughts:**

Game QA is something that still requires human feedback but I do believe that the boring repetitive stuff can be automated. Teams and devs can login to the web or desktop dashboard and review all footage, evidence, and provide feedback to Obvra and it will take it into account for the next test run.

I see this as a tool that can aid development for teams and solo developers so they can focus on releasing games ridden with less bugs, ultimately frustrating players.

Building custom tests, and making them adapatable to various situations is a time-sink and it's a big reason why many devs skip it as a whole then deal with bugs post released from those same frustated players after they've left a negative review.

My solution to this was making software that was flexible and is on-demand. It doesn't matter the type of game or engine, you open the application, whether browser or desktop, and click record. It handles the rest. The goal is to make it as easy as possible to QA your game pre-launch and post-launch.

The software itself is quite extensive and there are too many features to list here. It has full auto WASD support, all input types, mouseless mode, and all sort of combinations / functionality that you would expect. It's not listed on the website as I haven't gotten there yet but I spent years adding, thinking, and testing every edge case I could. That took a long time, there are more edge cases for the vast variety of game types than you can imagine. None of these features rely on AI/GenAI processing which allows for near instant reaction times.

There are 3 ways to detect objects on the screen of any type.

\- OCR

\- Custom Object Detection Engine I made over the years

\- Mix of AI Tools

You can choose any of them from the settings that suits you depending on the game. You can also mix and match as you see fit as a game may work best with a mix.

>Disclaimer: This software is intended for game development QA and nothing else.

The website is still a work in progress that I am still updating.

This is the first time i'm showing it to the public. Feel free to share feedback on website / software. I am **a solo developer** and I have worked on every aspect of the web & application so please cut me some slack.
