Blass has many songs that are fundamental to the evolution of Reggaeton. And he's done better numbers than most would expect.

**"Dembow" -** Yandel, **"Gata Gangster" -** Daddy Yankee & Don Omar, **"Cosa Buena"** \- Tego Calderon, **"Lo Grande Que Es Perdonar"** \- Vico C & Gilberto Santa Rosa, **"5 De Septiembre Reggaeton Version"** \- Vico C, **"No Te Veo"** \- Casa De Leones, **"En La Cama"** \- Daddy Yankee & Nicky Jam, **"Mirate Al Espejo" AKA "De Chamaquito Yo"** by Lito y Polaco, **"La Maquina" -** Anuel AA ft Jowell, Randy, De La Ghetto & Yailin La Mas Viral, **"Tu Eres Un Bom Bom (Remix)" -** Kafu Banton & Bad Gyal, **y "El Amor Con La Ropa" - Speedy**

I don't know if anyone was meant to produce Reggaeton. Possibly Playero and Nico Canada, but I would have to include DJ Blass too. Forgive me If I'm mistaken, but I think Blass' first work was uncredited with DJ Joe on a little known album known as "La Furia Rap & Reggae". The story goes that he would always come to the studio to learn and Master Joe gave him a machine that he and Joe did not know how to work hoping he would go away. He mastered the machine and did some work for Joe and Master.

About a year later he discovered the then little known DAW Fruity Loops (now known as 'FL Studio') and brings it to DJ Joe's studio. It would take Joe awhile to acclimate but DJ Blass and a then unknown artist, Speedy, started cooking up beats on the program that would revolutionize Reggaeton then on forward. They say Blass slowed down the dembow first, and yes he did that with "[Te La Pongo Slow" from "Aria 51 vol. 2 Reggaeton Sex"](https://youtu.be/pK3ckHu62iE?si=oisUOl7DkdxTtsx9&t=531)... but he did much more... and he didn't.

To be fair, Blassy Blassy Blass wasn't doing something that no other producer had done. There were slow dembow jams in the 90's but they weren't that popular except for the ballads like "Cierra Los Ojos". Bellaqueo Reggaeton started with Playero. DJ Nelson, El Chombo and DJ Pablito introduced Techno Fusions. They say he brought melody first to the genre, but Elvis G was creating original melodies in the 90's. And Noriega brought all original compositions in "Romances Del Ruido" over slow dembows in the year 2000. A year before Blass and brought his Sandunguero wave that is the basis of modern day Reggaeton.

But I think he's the most versatile producer of all-time, even moreso than Tainy. And he took everything that was out there, even sampling like on 2001's "Me La Imaginaba" and did it better than everyone else. That's what he did. "Es Dificil", "No Te Veo". "El Amor Con La Ropa", "Dembow" by Yandel, "En La Cama" all have different styles in their production elements yet they were all made by one man, DJ Blass. Blass has indelible legacy in this thing and no one can take that away from him.

Tainy is a phenom.  Even when he was just 15 years old, people marveled at his production abilities.  Tainy was known for bringing unique synth sounds.  Whenever something had a strange synth you immediately thought “that’s Tainy!”.  Tracks like “Body On Fire”, “Estas Tentandome” or “En Cámara” were exemplary of his uniquely distinctive sound.

Then in the 2010’s he was at the forefront of the hybrid between Reggaeton and EDM.  The single “[Hablé De Ti” by Yandel](https://youtu.be/R3rzh7uCeOA?si=L5hAKJc77bivoPyj) is an example of what Tainy was capable during this period.  If he stopped there, his trajectory still would have been historic.  But then the Trap era came and Tainy evolved with the times.  Tainy’s works with Bad Bunny, Alvaro Diaz and Anuel AA have transcended across all genres of music.  But he still took Reggaeton to another level with his works in the late 2010’s and 2020’s, specifically with his first solo album “Data”.

My honest opinion on “Data” is that it’s not as good as it could’ve been, although it’s still great.  Tainy seemed to be making an album that appealed to his now wide array of connoisseurs such as lovers of his older works like myself but also new listeners that discovered him through his works with Dua Lipa, Rosalia and Bad Bunny.  And on that front he succeeded.  “Data” is a Rap and Reggaeton album, but it is also a Modern Pop album.  Tainy is not just the most relevant Urbano producer but he’s the most significant producer in all modern Latin Music.

**Verdict: DJ Blass > Tainy.** No student is better than his master and although Luny Tunes taught him directly, the one responsible for the style Luny Tunes popularized was DJ Blass. So, yea Blass is Tainy's teacher too. The versatility and ability to adapt over the years; Blass doesn't have the mainstream clout Tainy does, not even close, but he is superior in ability or at least matches them in Tainy that we cannot tell the difference. And when you add the influence and longevity, it's close, real close. And I had Tainy as the winner until I wrote this and realized... Blass is better... by a hair. It's really close. Tainy will probably surpass him in the next decade or so. And I don't see nobody surpassing him then anytime soon. But as of this writing... Blass is still better.
