Does an aborted suicide attempt count as an attempt?

In some screening questionnaires a question is asked that is something like: "Have you ever taken actions with intent to kill yourself, even if you did not follow through? For example, counting pills but not taking them, holding a gun but not loading it, going to a bridge but not jumping, etc."

So if someone did one of the above examples, does that technically count as a suicide attempt? Or is an aborted attempt more of a separate or sub- classification?
