I think someone from elve just expected a free pet from me??

I am genuinely so confused right now lmao I posted a listing for my ice cream hermit which I managed to get a few days ago and wanted to see what people would offer for it so I put the listing up with the add thing on the other side and someone accepted so I figured they wanted to offer in game cause I've had that happen before and so we friended each other and joined a game. I traded them and added my hermit and they said "it appeared I wasn't adding anything" and I was so confused about it and said "I figured you wanted to offer in game?" And so they said they'd see and started looking through their backpack or at least made it look like that and then left?? I unfriended and cancelled a few minutes later when it became clear that they weren't going to rejoin. I just want to know if I interpreted what happened correctly. Did this person seriously expect it for free??
