The version of “moving on” nobody warns you about

Discussion

Everyone talks about moving on like it’s a finish line. In my experience it’s more like the background noise gets quieter, not that it stops. I used to think I hadn’t actually healed from something because I still thought about it sometimes. Turns out that’s not the bar. The bar is whether it still runs your decisions, not whether it still crosses your mind. Took me way longer than it should have to figure out those are two different things. Anyone else confuse “still think about it” with “not over it” for longer than you’d like to admit?
