I hope the 2x2 executions are more like the THH executions

Spoiler2x2 Speculation (Full Series Spoilers)

Imo thh has the best executions in the series. Cool concepts with the first 3/4 having a slight run-down circus theme. The framing in shots like the baseball rolling away from Leon, revealing blood was amazing.

I think later game executions focus too much on spectacle. Obviously all dangan executions are over the top, that’s what makes them great, but the thh ones are themed around the character, talent, mocks them and individually has a strong aesthetic all to support the psychopop horror. The sombre painted flames from Celeste’s execution is not interchangeable with with the performer monokumas from Mondo’s.

With sdr2 and v3 the executions feel more random. Mikan is about as linked to a helicopter as Teruteru is to a giant arm. I think talent is incorporated too much and also in a surface level way. Instead of finding an execution method that links to the talent and and giving it a unique coat of paint, it’s any death method with talent-related props.

Now it is personal preference to like the more ‘grounded’ methods as I don’t like when there are too many ‘stages’ to an execution or visuals that just feel like a distraction from the death itself. But there are only so many ways to execute characters that are fun, original and work with the animation style. Plus the impossibility of sdr2 and gimmicks of v3 are arguably foreshadowing.

Maybe if 2x2 has a twist that its isn’t a simulation/tv show/fake but completely real, they’ll bring back the simpler executions. (I also hope 2x2 used the 3d model bases for cgs like only thh did as it gave the cgs a lot of dimension). I’m also excited about if they’ll include modern tweening in the execution animations. So far, 2x2s visual identity feels a tad generic with the vaguely sci-fi cleanness found in a lot of new vns/gachas but the backgrounds have good colours, just unsettling enough.
