Baby fell off bed on my watch 9 mo old

Relationship

My baby fell off the bed this morning on my watch.

It was 4:30 am, I went in and tried to soothe her. She was clearly hungry but seemed still pretty tired. In a moment of poor judgment and complete exhaustion, I put her on the bed while I made a bottle.

30ish seconds later I heard a thud, looked back & she’d fallen. She cried right away, I soothed, she took her bottle then was completely normal. I called the doctor and she gave me things to look out for & told me we didn’t need to go to the ER.

I obviously feel like the worst person in the world. I’ve been in a state of shock I think for a few hours but now it’s hitting me how badly it could have been and hearing the thud and seeing her upset is playing over and over in my mind.

My husband made the situation 1,000x worse. He stormed in the room. I immediately said I’m sorry through tears. He starts yelling and throwing accusations. I try to explain what happened because he’s asking how she landed etc. continues screaming at me. Calls me a “fucking idiot” and then goes into our room and starts punching the bed. Comes back and continues yelling. Is saying I’m incapable & do we need to hire a nanny? He doesn’t trust me, etc. mind you, I’ve been her primary caretaker for 9 months and NOTHING close to this has EVER happened on my watch. I am finding his reaction to be really abnormal and I want honest opinions.

Let me just make this clear: He has EVERY right to be angry with me. I fucked up and I acknowledged this multiple times. I KNOW what I did was unsafe and I will NEVER let it happen again.

But I do think his reaction was borderline emotional abuse and way too strong. It’s only been a few hours but I don’t know how I can move past it. If he did this when she is older and aware I would HAVE to leave him because I don’t think it’s healthy for her to think that partners treat one another that way.

I also want to note that this is par for the course in the way he reacts in stressful situations. Loves to play the blame game and REALLY rub your face in it any time you make a mistake. I do know this instance is much more than a small mistake.

Please do not make me feel worse about what I did. I already know I’ve messed up and I’ll NEVER EVER let something like this happen again. I’m looking for commentary on whether I’m overreacting to his reaction.
