Question for plumber

Question for working plumbers here — when you're on a job (especially older installations), how often do you run into a part you can't easily identify (discontinued brand, worn-off markings, foreign model)? If it happens: how much time does it usually cost you to figure it out or find an equivalent? And what's your current workaround (photo to a colleague, call to a supply house, something else)?
