Another help me choose…
Hi there! I have a few questions and I hope you could help me.
I’m thinking about getting an e-reader with a bigger screen. I currently have a Palma 2, which I absolutely love, but I’ve started having an issue with KOReader: the pages sometimes hang/freezes when I turn them. I’ve updated everything and cleared whatever I could, but the problem is still there. So if anyone knows what could be causing this, I’d also really appreciate some advice!
Other than that, the Palma 2 has been amazing. It’s incredibly portable and I really enjoy reading on it.
My requirements for a new device:
Ability to install KOReader
Black-and-white screen (I only read sideloaded books)
Flush screen, preferably
Preferably no physical buttons, although this is not a dealbreaker
A bigger screen than the Palma 2 (but smaller or not bigger than Kobo Library Colour so it could still be portable…)
Being able to install KOReader is very important to me. I previously had a Kobo Libra Colour, but I ended up not using it as much as I expected (the screen was too big for my liking) Then, after one of the updates, I had problems with NickelMenu and couldn’t figure out how to fix them, so I eventually sold the device.
So, unfortunately, I’d say Kobos are probably a no for me.
Maybe a Kindle? I don’t know how difficult it is to jailbreak Kindles. But I like how the devices look and I was able to use one in the store and it was ok. I only read sideloaded books, and I have absolutely no need for a colour screen, so a basic black-and-white e-ink screen is perfectly fine for me.
I also didn’t like that the Kobo’s screen wasn’t flush with the sides. It bothered me way more than it probably should have 😅 My Palma 2 is flush, and I find it really satisfying.
In general, I’m looking for something that could last at least 2+ years without developing annoying bugs. As I mentioned, my Palma 2 has started doing this thing where pages hang while I’m reading, and I really hate it (I have it little more than a year and use it to only open koreader)
But maybe this is just how e-readers are? I keep thinking that all I’m doing is opening a book and turning pages, so it feels like there shouldn’t really be much that could cause it to hang. Or am I missing something?
Any thoughts, recommendations, or insights would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you! 🥹
