Look, I know people love to defend the back half of the series, but let's be honest about where this show actually lost its identity.

**The Golden Era (Seasons 1–4)**

The first two seasons were unmatched. Grounded, gritty survival horror, actual tension, and a small group dynamic where every single choice meant life or death. The Rick vs. Shane conflict was the absolute emotional peak of the entire franchise. Then came Seasons 3 and 4 with the Governor, a genuinely dangerous, grounded antagonist who didn't need theatrical monologues or gimmicks to be terrifying.

**The Peak & The Cut-Off (Season 5)**

Season 5 delivered one of the best moments in TV history with Carol single-handedly annihilating Terminus, even if the cannibal arc leading up to it fell flat. But the moment the group opened the gates to Alexandria? That should have been the series finale. The second they crossed that threshold, the show traded gritty survival for babysitting incompetent, dull, and utterly infuriating Alexandrians who had no business surviving two weeks in the apocalypse.

**The Downward Spiral (Seasons 6–11)**

From there, the show collapsed under its own weight:

* **The Wolves (S6):** A stupid, pointless distraction that served as empty padding.
* **The Negan Circus (S7–S8):** Ruined by cartoonish overacting, theatrical lean-backs, and endless grandstanding. Forcing a sudden "good guy" redemption arc on him later completely killed his credibility as a villain.
* **The Whisperers (S9–S10):** Alpha and Beta were tedious, obnoxious antagonists that dragged the show into bizarre, forgettable territory.
* **The Angela Kang Era (S11):** Overly complicated, dry, and drained of real emotion. The Pope and Reaper side-quest was useless bloat, and Commonwealth political drama killed whatever horror atmosphere was left.

Seasons 1–4 were legendary television. After Alexandria, it became an entirely different, vastly inferior show. Does anyone else agree that the series lost its soul the moment they walked into that safe zone?

The Walking Dead peaked with the Governor and should have rolled credits the exact second they reached Alexandria. Change my mind.
