Why did I buy the O1? There are a few reasons. For one, lately I’ve been brewing 15g doses, so I’ve pretty much moved away from 18g. I also have a specific brewing recipe in mind that I want to try.

Most of the recipes I’ve been doing were on the OREA V4 with Sibarist filters. And as you guys know, Sibarist filters aren’t cheap they’re actually super expensive. So just keeping a monthly supply of them can become a decent expense.

I thought, if I can get amazing results from the O1 using xBloom filters, which are way way cheaper than Sibarist, then why would I keep using my current setup? So I decided to get the O1 and change the way I brew to 15g doses. The recipe is much easier to do, and if the results are amazing, then… well, hell yeah. ☠️

And honestly, from the very first day, I’ve been super happy with the results. I’m getting some incredible cups even from my very first brews. I’m especially happy that I can finish the extraction in around a minute and a half, because I’m specifically targeting very fast extractions with this setup.

I’m really, really happy with the coffee and the results. And on top of that, this purple color is super attractive. 😂💜

But I’m not really the kind of person who buys a bunch of different brewers just to collect them. Anyone who knows me can see that I barely used or reviewed anything other than the OREA V4. I’m not the type of person who would recommend having a ton of different brewers. Personally, I think it’s better to stick with one or two and spend your money on things that matter more.

A brewer isn’t automatically going to give you better coffee. You need to focus on having a good grinder, buying high-quality coffees, and paying attention to your water. Then you can worry about the brewer and the filter.

I’m not saying the brewer doesn’t matter it definitely does. But I don’t think it matters to the point where you need 5,000 different brewers and 5,000 different filters sitting around.. Why? I honestly don’t see the point.

Personally, I’d rather take the money I would’ve spent on all those different brewers and filters and put it toward buying really good coffee instead.

So I wanted to hear your thoughts on this. Do you guys actually think it makes sense to have a ton of different brewers and filters and constantly switch between them, trying to figure out what to brew with every day?

Because, for example, I don’t really see the point in having a Hario V60, a Timemore V60, a Cafec V60, and another V60 from some other company. The differences between all of those are so tiny that you might not even notice them.

If you actually want to see a meaningful difference, I think you should look at different geometries and angles. For example, you have the V60 at 60°, then you have something like the UFO with an 80° angle, or the Cafec Deep 27 with a 27° angle, and so on. Those differences in geometry are what can actually have a significant effect on the results.

But if you’re just buying different V60-style brewers that all have roughly the same 60° geometry, even though they’re made by different companies, I don’t think you’re going to get that “OH MY GOD, WHAT A DIFFERENCE!” moment. ✨

The difference might be very subtle maybe so subtle that you won’t even notice it. Sometimes it might even just be psychological.

So that’s something I’ve been thinking about today, and I’d genuinely love to hear your opinions on it. What do you guys think?

Are we overbuying brewers?
