**Eleanor of Aquitaine: the queen who supported her sons’ rebellion against her own husband 👑⚔**️
Eleanor of Aquitaine was one of the most influential women of the Middle Ages.
She was Duchess of Aquitaine, Queen of France through her marriage to Louis VII, and later Queen of England as the wife of Henry II.
But one of the most dramatic chapters of her life began in 1173.
⚔️ That year, Eleanor and Henry II’s eldest surviving son rebelled against his father. His brothers Richard and Geoffrey joined the uprising.
Eleanor supported her sons.
The rebellion failed, and Eleanor herself was captured by her husband’s forces.
🔒 She then spent almost 16 years in captivity.
Only after Henry II died in 1189 did her son Richard I — later known as Richard the Lionheart — order his mother’s release.
And at around 67 years old, Eleanor returned to active political life.
🤯 Her story remains one of the most remarkable of medieval Europe: a duchess, Queen of France, Queen of England, mother of two English kings, and a woman who survived nearly sixteen years of imprisonment before once again becoming one of the most influential figures of her age.
