I feel like I always give more to people than they give me
Maybe I’m too careful or nice, or maybe it’s because I’m neurodivergent so I’m extra aware of what I do, but I feel like I give so much more than what I receive. I make sure I listen to my friends, but when it’s my turn to talk I’m ignored or interrupted. I have adhd so the urge to interrupt is big but I still do my best not to do it, yet no one cares enough to do the same for me.
I will go out of my way to help my friends, even going out of my comfort zone, but suddenly when I have the most minor favour they refuse to help.
There was a time where I was living with ‘friends’ during third year uni. I had to wake up at 7am to get to 9am lectures, then at 6pm I’d be at work in a pub until about 1am and I’d be home at 2am. Cycle repeat. I was exhausted and barely ate because I didn’t have the time. When I’d come home at 1 or 2am I’d be as quiet as possible, and even though I was starving, I wouldn’t make myself food because I didn’t want to wake anyone up. Yet, every morning they’d be loud af, slamming doors, yelling etc. I’d tell them multiple times to keep the noise down in the morning for at least a little bit so I can sleep in when I don’t have to go to lectures, but honestly the noise just got worse after that.
Idk it just makes me upset that I try so hard to keep others in mind when they don’t care to do the same for me. I literally starved myself for them but apparently staying quiet in the morning was too much to ask for.
These are just a few examples, but it’s something I’m constantly dealing with. I decided not to make anymore new friends, it’s too draining, people are assholes. I’m happy with the friends I have that are mature adults, especially my best friend of over 10 years.
Does anyone else experience this?
