Some things about the ring I don’t understand

:149: QUESTION

I’ve noticed a few interesting things about how Hal’s ring seems to work in this interpretation:
For some reason, Hal doesn’t seem to have full control over the ring. For example, he can’t seem to call it toward him like we’ve seen Green Lanterns do in other interpretations. Is this something he simply can’t do with this version of the ring?
The ring also doesn’t seem capable of creating a protective, skin-tight barrier around Hal that would make him bulletproof. In Episode 4, he says he can’t just walk in because they’ll aim for his head. I understand that he’s a detective and wants to figure out what’s going on rather than just go in guns blazing, but it still seems strange that he can’t create some kind of protective layer around himself.
Something else I found interesting is that the ring doesn’t seem to function like a supercomputer that can simply create anything the user imagines. Hal apparently has to understand and consciously construct every individual part of whatever he’s trying to make.
Is that normally the case for Green Lanterns? In the 2011 masterpiece, we see Hal casually create fighter jets, machine guns, and all sorts of complicated constructs without much effort. Do you think this version of Hal simply wouldn’t be capable of doing that, or would he actually have to understand how every component works first?
The constructs don’t seem capable of floating independently either. When John creates the 185 lb kettlebell, he actually has to physically pick it up rather than having the ring move or suspend it for him. That seems like a pretty major limitation compared to how Green Lantern constructs normally work.
Obviously, I understand that if the ring worked exactly like it does in the comics, there would basically be zero stakes. Green Lantern rings are ridiculously powerful, so I can understand why they’d want to limit what Hal can do. I just find the specific limitations of this version of the ring really interesting.
