Player Tracking in Sports: Are We Measuring Too Much?
Player tracking has come a long way. We can now measure speed, distance, acceleration, positioning, and a lot more.
But I sometimes wonder if more data actually means better insights.
A player covering more distance doesn't necessarily mean they had a better game. Their position, role, intensity, and match situation all matter.
I think the interesting next step is connecting tracking data with video and performance data to understand the context behind the numbers.
What do you think which player-tracking metric is actually useful, and which ones get too much attention?
