Best current way to play Sonic Heroes?

Sonic Heroes is one of my childhood games, but replaying it nowadays is kinda a mess, compared to the other Adventure era ones.

For SA1 and 2 my go-to platform is the steam release with mods, but since Sonic Heroes doesn't have a new pc re release (why, SEGA?), I'm stuck with the old og release, that's buggy as hell. That, or emulating the gamecube version through Dolphin.

Dolphin emulation, as far as I could tell, has a problem with widescreen support (things pop in and out of existence outside the 4:3 box the game was supposed to run). So there's no definitive answer here.

That's why I come here to ask: What's the best way to play this specific game? Should I play the PC version with the Fixed Edition mod, or the Gamecube one through dolphin with widescreen patches applied? Is there a fix for the Gamecube version?
