What are the subtle "green flags" you noticed during your plastic surgery consults that made you actually feel safe?

I’ve been spending a lot of time researching procedures and setting up consultations, and one thing that stands out is how wildly different surgeon bedside manners and safety protocols can be.

On one hand, you meet providers who almost treat major procedures like a quick spa visit and gloss over recovery. On the other hand, you find doctors who take 45 minutes just walking through anesthesia safety, emergency protocols, and realistic revision rates.

For those of you who have gone under the knife or are currently vetting doctors: what were the specific green flags or questions that gave you 100% confidence you were in good hands?

A few things I’ve added to my own vetting list so far:

  • Direct confirmation that an MD anesthesiologist is present the entire time (not just a nurse supervisor rotating between rooms).
  • Surgeons who show unedited, raw before-and-afters under natural lighting rather than heavily filtered angles.
  • Clinics that provide their direct emergency contact line for after-hours recovery issues before you even book.

Would love to hear what made you decide "yes, this is the doctor I trust with my body."
