[SF] Memories
Hi everyone, I am not a writer, I just write as a hobby. Please give me some constructive criticism. Basically I receive some random cues from GPT and try to craft a story in half an hour around those cues.
Round 2 — Abstract Cues
“The last lie” — “A forgotten promise” — “Silence” — “Something that cannot be undone” — “A door that was never there” — “Someone remembers differently”
Story-
Alex was returning to his old home after a long time. He slightly opened the door and was instantly hit with the nostalgic aroma of his mom's cookies which she baked all the time while growing up. Of course the house was empty and cold now, it was just a rush of memories as he walked past the front door. As he approached the living room, be could practically see his dad in front of the television watching the evening news or a sports event on holidays and loudly cheering for his team and calling out to Alex to join him.
Then as he approached the staircase he could practically hear the little giggling of his daughter and his wife yelling in her sweet voice from the top of the stairs for her to slow down. It almost felt like he could touch them. He remembered his wedding vows how he promised to protect his wife, but it was all a lie, he couldn't do anything when it actually mattered. His world shattered in front of him in a matter of minutes and the irony, he was the one responsible for it. He had done something which can never be undone, he could never atone for the crimes he had committed.
Alex was one of the leading physicists in the world who helped in developing one of the most dangerous bombs in history, even more lethal than the hydrogen bomb for combating aliens in the year 2108. Humanity won but now that the threat was gone, they were at each other's throats again and soon enough World War 4 ravaged everything and everyone on earth, including Alex's own home. Almost 99% of humans were wiped out and the rest were dying out as the sun was blocked out due to the nuclear winter. There was dead silence everywhere.
While reminiscing about the good old days before these horrors, he stumbled upon a door which he didn't remember being there before. He opened it and inside it was completely bright, he was surprised as he hadn't seen the sun in the last 6 months. Inside he saw another him, he called himself John. He explained he was an alternate ego which Alex created when he was in extreme distress as his technology was being used to murder billions of humans. John told him to forgive himself as it was never his intention. All he wanted to do was protect humans from extra terrestrial threats. Alex fell into John's arms and cried for the first time in 6 months letting all of his emotions out.
Before long, he snapped back to reality. He was half buried in snow and slowly dying from hypothermia and hallucinating. He wanted to truly die before, but he didn't want to give up now after his life flashed before his eyes and his alternate ego encouraged him. He knew he wasn't entirely responsible for all the atrocities which humanity had committed but he still wanted to help the remaining humans. He wanted to make a difference, he wanted to atone, he finally had a goal. He slowly walked away while leaving footprints in the snow
