Will my medication help?

It's my first time posting on here so I'm sorry if this breaks any rules.

I have bipolar 2 mixed features, for context all my episodes are mixed.

My psychiatrist has prescribed me lamotrigine, my understanding of the medication is that it helps prevent episodes and it's particularly good at preventing depressive episodes.

My question is how does that help me and my mixed episodes?
