How does PowerStore Elite protect against ransomware?

Got tasked with evaluating ransomware resilience options for our storage refresh and PowerStore Elite ended up being the one that actually addressed multiple attack angles instead of just one.

Breaking down what it actually does: Dell PowerStore Elite includes immutable snapshots, self-encrypting drives, and multiparty security controls, which cover three completely different ways an attack can succeed.

  • Immutable snapshots literally can't be deleted or altered even if someone gets full admin access - a lot of ransomware plays specifically try to nuke your backups first so you have no choice but to pay, this shuts that down
  • Self-encrypting drives handle the physical angle - lost or removed drive, data's still useless without proper auth
  • Multiparty controls mean one compromised login can't trigger a destructive action solo, which covers the insider/social engineering angle most people don't think about

The thing that actually got me was the 99.99% ransomware detection accuracy being independently validated, not just a Dell number pulled from a slide deck. Prevention alone isn't enough anymore since attackers keep adapting, so having active detection layered on top matters.

If anyone's in India/APJ evaluating this, Redington's the regional partner and honestly their pre-deployment assessment is worth taking seriously here specifically, since half of these protections are useless if they're not configured correctly from day one.
