If i ever get into drifting, racing or anything to do with a shitbox on the track. Which car should i get?

I know that as a first car daily, i am definitely going to get a cheap reliable corolla which sits comfortably in the 50k NOK ($5k once converted) here in Norway but, if i ever pursue my dreams of drifting, racing, or just putting a car on the track in general. Which model should i be looking for? I do know that i’ll have to put time and effort into it but is it something i can get into for cheap starting price? Is it something i can just buy a dirt cheap 20 year old BMW E46 on (which has been taken care of) and turn it into some project car with maintenance? Or is it something i should generally just spend more money on than just 5-10k like maybe a more modern sports car? I am genuinely lost here and just want to make the smartest decision.

Is something like a Miata, E46 or a GT86/BRZ an ideal choice? Thanks :)
