The clasp on my handmade watch somehow changed position

I've always been really interested in watches. A while ago, I decided to build my own watch from individual parts that I ordered online.

I assembled the entire watch myself, including the bracelet and clasp. I wore this watch regularly for around two to three months. I've worn it countless times during that period. I've shown it to my girlfriend, my parents and my sister many times, and my girlfriend has even worn it herself.

So I know this watch extremely well.

A few days ago, I took it off and put it on my nightstand, just like I normally do.

The next time I picked it up, I immediately noticed something was wrong: one of the parts of the clasp was completely backwards.

I'm talking about the small metal flap that normally folds over the main part of the clasp. It is now facing the opposite direction, which means the clasp can't close properly anymore.

The strange thing is that I cannot simply turn this piece back around. There is no screw or adjustment that allows me to do this from the outside. The clasp would have to be taken apart, the piece physically removed, and then installed the other way around.

I did not do that.

Nobody else in my house did either. I'm the only person here who knows anything about watches. My parents and sister don't know how to take apart a watch clasp, and neither does my girlfriend.

And this isn't just a cosmetic issue. Because the piece is now sticking out in the wrong position, I can't safely wear the watch anymore. It sticks out from the clasp and can catch on things, and it's basically left the watch unusable until I somehow manage to take the clasp apart and fix it.

The part that really bothers me is this:

I know exactly how I assembled it. I know exactly how that piece was positioned. I wore this watch for two to three months without this ever being a problem. Other people have seen and worn it. Then I leave it on my nightstand, and somehow that piece is suddenly installed backwards.

It wasn't broken. It wasn't loose. It wasn't lying next to the watch.

It was physically in the clasp, in the opposite orientation from how I assembled it.

I know this subreddit doesn't allow photos in posts, but if anyone wants to see the clasp for themselves, feel free to ask me and I can send you pictures privately. I have pictures showing exactly how the piece is positioned and why I can't simply adjust it back with a screw or anything like that.

I'm not looking for attention or trying to make this sound more mysterious than it is. This genuinely happened, and I have no idea how that piece ended up in that position.

Has anyone experienced something like this?
