New Teacher, horrible start to the year and not sure if I'll stay
I'm a new sped teacher in elementary in NC. I was super excited all summer about my new position and put in countless hours into my new room at the school. It was really dirty and had a lot of junk left from the last teacher, so I deep cleaned and did a ton of decorating. I just got told that I will be moving rooms, not two months into the school year. Admin was just kind of like "yeah sorry about your room". Just very passive. I only had one person genuinely feel sorry for me since I did so much work in there. The new room I'm getting is smaller and also extremely dirty. It's like you get punished for even trying.
That's just the most recent setback. The entire first month and a half of school has been pretty awful. A lot of interpersonal issues and issues with paras. The culture at the school has been surprisingly toxic. Admin is trying to turn a leaf this year but I just don't know. All in all, I already have the mindset that I just need to survive my first year and then maybe I'll look at moving schools or grades. The kids have been the least of my problems. I just wanna focus on teaching but there's all this drama and crap that comes first.
