Need help making a homeless resource guide more accessible
I help maintain VivaSLO, a free, volunteer-run web app that helps people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness in San Luis Obispo County, California find shelter, food, medical care, and other resources. It's an all-volunteer project with no budget to speak of.
We just finished an accessibility pass — contrast, keyboard navigation, ARIA dialogs, focus management. But none of us are daily screen reader users, so we don't know if it's really usable. We're looking for someone who regularly uses TalkBack or similar tools to spend 30–45 minutes trying real tasks on the live site: finding a shelter, searching, opening a directory listing, calling a number straight from the guide, filling out the feedback form — and telling us what breaks or is confusing.
The site is live at https://vivaslo.org/
We can offer a small stipend (a $25 gift card) for your time. It's not a lot — this is an unpaid-volunteer project — but we didn't want to ask for your expertise for free. If you'd rather just help as a favor, that's welcome too.
If you're interested, or know someone who might be, reply here or email moorlock@gmail.com. Thanks for considering it.
