SIBO + Endometriosis??? (I’m absolutely miserable)

Venting

Has anyone else on here had both SIBO and Endometriosis? I’ve been reading more and more about how the two are linked together and very much believe that is what is going on with me.

For context, I started going down a gut health/general health rabbit hole about a year ago when my digestive symptoms flared up extremely. Before that, I had IBS symptoms for about two years that I just tried to deal with. But one day about a year ago, I felt different then I had ever before, I felt completely sick, my stomach felt sour and I was experiencing liquid diarrhea non-stop. I basically couldn’t leave my house because of how frequently I was going and couldn’t eat anything, even safe foods. After going to urgent care, they said I had diverticulitis and gave me some antibiotics. I do think that that small dose of antibiotics was the only thing that allowed me to start to function daily, although I was still miserable.

I was on the BRAT diet for basically a month. Then started Low-FODMAP. I saw a GI and got bloodwork done, two stool tests, a colonoscopy, and a SIBO test. However, I didn’t follow the diet before the SIBO test as strictly as I should’ve and I also read that the test I was given wasn’t as affective. I asked for another test and was denied by my GI. After an MRI of my stomach, my GI found cysts on my ovaries, leading me down an endometriosis rabbit hole and a completely different direction.

I had laparoscopic excision surgery done by a specialist about a month ago. I thought that endo was the root of all my issues, and that after surgery I would feel so much better. The other thing I am still eating mostly low-FODMAP a year later. I’ve worked some foods in and don’t pay attention to portions like I should, but a majority of the high fodmap foods are out of my diet. I’m also anti-inflammatory, gluten free and almost dairy free in an effort to keep inflammation down for my endo.

I’m still having the worst stomach symptoms and I can’t keep living like this. A month after surgery I thought I would be better and finally be able to eat more foods. My endo specialist also suggested that grains can be hard on your stomach after surgery, so I’m even more restricted. I’m constantly swinging back and forth between constipation and diarrhea. I genuinely cannot take this anymore.

Basically, Im back to where I was a year ago of being convinced I have SIBO. This all started happening during my senior year of college and I just recently graduated. I missed out of so much during college, and am now falling behind as an adult. I couldn’t get a job or internship this summer because of my health, and I’m in so much debt not only from college but from all my health procedures. I moved back in this my parents and have struggled to find a job since moving home, and I’m not even sure if I would be able to work anywhere in person with how miserable I am. Just today I had to cancel a job interview last minute because I could not stop having diarrhea. I’ve turned down trips, job opportunities, canceled plans, and sat with my plate empty at dinners. I’ve basically been sick and miserable for an entire year and it’s taking such a a toll on my mental health.

If anyone else has a similar situation in which they had both endo and sibo, i would be curious to hear it. Thank you for listening to my rant. I’m just so frustrated and losing hope that it will ever get better.
