Therapist/counselor be psychiatrist

Hello, I’m currently working on my mental health claim with the vso. The former psychiatrist I was working with a couple years back is retired but I was finally able to retrieve my medical records from the practice. I have diagnosis in the records but the vso told me I need a note to fully establish connection. You guys think it’s best to go to an actual psychiatrist again or would my therapist suffice. Any help would be appreciated…thank you.
