Menstrual migraine

Hi there,

I (30) am looking for advice and experiences from women who (also) suffer from menstrual migraine.

- What kind of medication or something else to you take?

- How do you deal with this at work?

More about my situation:

Since the removal of my IUD (October 2025), I have been suffering from migraines, often exactly 2 days before my period. In consultation with my GP, I was prescribed Sumatriptan. When used it for the first time; I noticed that the headache briefly became slightly worse but then subsided. Furthermore, I felt quite drowsy and experienced a heavy and pressing sensation in my body. I consulted my GP again and got Zolmitriptan prescribed. Less side effects, but it doesn't take the pain and light/sound sensitivity away a lot.

I work in education myself and notice that working with the migraine is quite difficult, causing me to call in sick. As a result, my absenteeism is increasing, which worries me.

Note: I live in the Netherlands
