Hi everyone!

I’ve never really posted on Reddit before (even though I’ve had the app for a while), so please bear with me. I’m relatively new to the FF7 fandom—I only got really into it a couple of months ago—and I just wanted to rant a little and ask a few questions.

I’ve been on Twitter and keep seeing a lot of Clerith fans saying the developers are going to do a complete 180 and make Clerith endgame. Their main argument is that the alternate timeline stuff wouldn’t have been introduced for no reason unless they planned to bring Aerith back. A lot of them also claim Clotis are getting too excited, that the heavy Cloti marketing is just Square Enix “playing us,” and that it’s all going to go the other way. I’m still pretty new to the fandom, so I haven’t fully learned how to tune that stuff out yet. That leads me to my questions:

• Can someone explain the alternate timeline and defying fate situation and what it actually means/implies?
• Before Rebrith released, was the discourse similar? Did a lot of people believe Aerith wouldn’t die, or that things would somehow reverse?
• If anyone has some grounded hope or positive thoughts for Cloti endgame, I’d really appreciate hearing them.

I’m so sorry if this comes off as negative or is going against this subreddit rules I don’t really know what else to ask right now. This fandom can feel pretty intense sometimes. Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to reply!
