late 90's early 2000's knock off pokemon toy

This was a small legally distinct Charmander toy only an inch or two high at most and it came in a spring loaded sphere that may have had magnets or might have just popped close when you dropped it on the little toy and it "caught" him.

I remember buying this at a dollar tree or similar cheap store and an elementary school friend took it.

I know its a long shot but anyone even know where to start searching for it?
