I Bought a Vintage Mirror. Now I'm Trapped Inside It.
I love vintage stuff. So when I saw that mirror at al garage sale gold frame, tarnished glass I had to have it.
"How much?" I asked.
The old lady stared at me.
"My grandmother's mirror," she whispered. "She said it shows the truth. Some truths should stay hidden."
I laughed. Paid twenty bucks. Took it home.
NIGHT ONE
My reflection blinked half a second late. I told myself I was tired.
NIGHT TWO
I glanced at the mirror. My reflection was already || staring at me. Unblinking. Then it smiled. I wasn't || smiling.
I covered it with a sheet.
NIGHT THREE 2:47 AM
The sheet had fallen. My reflection was gone. Just empty | glass.
Then a face emerged. Not mine.
|| Pale. Hollow eyes. Long black hair. She pressed her hands || against the glass. Her palms left foggy prints. Her mouth moved silently.
I ran to the door. Locked. Windows jammed.
|| She tapped the glass.
Tap. Tap. Tap.
She mouthed: "Let me out."
I grabbed a chair. Smashed the mirror. Glass everywhere.
Silence.
MORNING
I cleaned up. Threw the pieces away. Finally over.
That night, I walked past the hallwaj new mirror hung
on the wall. Same gold frame. Same tarnished glass.
My reflection was sitting on the floor. Crying.
Her voice echoed from inside:
"You should have let me out."
THAT WAS SIX DAYS AGO
Every night, she takes my body outside. Lives my life.
Talks to my friends..
Every morning, she comes back. Presses her hands against the glass. Smiles.
And whispers:
"Tomorrow, I'll take your face too."
|| Tonight, I'm going to break the mirror again.
But I'm terrified.
Every morning, she comes back. Presses her hands against the glass. Smiles.
|| And whispers:
"Tomorrow, I'll take your face too."
|| Tonight, I'm going to break the mirror again.
But I'm terrified.
Because last time I broke it, I didn't break a mirror.
I broke a door.
|| And something came through.
