25F, prioritize living alone or maximizing my savings

Adulting Advice

Should I start solo living in Metro Manila at 25 years old?

For context, I’ve been working in Metro Manila for almost 3 years now, with 2 years of bedspace/dorm experience. I’ve been wanting to finally have my own place for some peace of mind, privacy, and just the experience of living alone.

The biggest thing holding me back is the cost. I’ve been able to save quite a lot over the years because of my cheap rent and keeping my expenses low. I’ve gotten used to saving a huge chunk of my income every month as a kuripot girlie. So while I know I can afford it, I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around spending ₱12k/month on rent when I know that money could otherwise go straight to savings.

The apartment I’m considering honestly feels too good to be true haha (not a scam, I personally viewed it). It’s in a newly built building and is near a palengke, church, supermarket, walking/running area, and a transport terminal with several routes. My company also provides a shuttle, and the apartment is within walking distance of the pickup/drop-off point.

The only downside is that the unit has just one relatively small window. There’s also another unit for ₱14k with more space and much bigger windows, but I honestly think the ₱12k unit is already more than enough for me.

I’m currently earning ₱56k gross, and I’m 4x onsite and 1x WFH. So I feel like having my own place would make a pretty big difference in terms of convenience and quality of life.

Some other notes: • I’m not worried about being able to afford it. My concern is more about whether the additional expense is worth it. • I’m used to saving aggressively, so spending more on rent feels like a huge mental hurdle.

TLDR: Earning ₱56k gross, considering a ₱12k apartment. Should I prioritize living alone and convenience over maximizing my savings?
