Hello everyone! I've recently been practicing a bit more and wanted to record some of my playing of arrangements I've done. I've done this, so far, using a tripod and my phone, but am not quite satisfied with the way it sounds, so I decided to try a different setup.

For context, it's a Wurlitzer stand up piano (not sure of the exact model, picture attached for reference) and I have a Yeti Blue mic plugged into a laptop recording using Audacity software.

I had read somewhere that opening up the piano so the strings are exposed (not sure of exactly correct terminology here) would help, but no matter how I set things up, the bass sounds tend to muddles together and it just doesn't sound anywhere close to what I hear by ear when playing. I know that I'm not going to achieve perfect fidelity, but it currently sounds downright bad. I've tried placing the mic directly on the piano, as well as next to it (approximately 3 feet or so from the strings) pointing directly at them in cardioid mode, still nothing better.

At this point, I'm either looking for advice on how to improve sound quality with my existing setup, or some other options (that are withing my budget of about $300-400) if possible. Any help is greatly appreciated!
