Why so many Americans dislike Islam and Muslims?

Obviously a ton of right wingers dislike Islam and Muslims, but I’ve even seen a ton of Left Wingers dislike Islam and Muslims, mainly because a lot of them say that Islam is anti LGBTQ and a lot of Muslims are anti LGBTQ as well. A lot of those Left Wingers are Atheists against religion as well.

Why is this the case? Especially since most Muslims in America I’ve seen are low crime and hard working folks.
