How does one sleep at night earning money when money is the Evil?

Mental Health / Support

Ok, being a little less dramatic, I am aware that money isn't inherently evil. This verbiage is the best I can do to articulate this struggle.

I, m(24), have had a rough time in life with career. I would consider myself politically involved and a history enthusiast. This thirst for knowledge leads me to the extremes of philosophy, alternative cultures, and history's tragedies that feel likely to repeat. The more I learn, the more I yern to align my efforts in life with my ever evolving values. The more I learn, the more I realize just how far away I am to living a life that is not actively supporting systems that no longer align with morally.

For example, I choose to avoid shopping at large chain grocery stores as I would prefer to direct my money towards small businesses and local communities. Some reasons for this include avoiding anti consumer practices within manufacturing that drop the quality of mass distributed food, avoid supporting inhumane livestock automation practices, avoiding the facial recognition/data driven studing of my shopping habits, and avoiding monopolistic behaviors of large industry.

This example was quite surface level, but hopefully it paints the picture. It gets hopelessly deep at times. I literally wouldn't carry a cell phone if I could avoid it.

Here's the struggle. Damn near every job I've ever touched has filled me with an existential dread that I attribute to the idea that I am actively supporting a larger problem. I don't want to live in this society but have no promising path to ever truly remove myself from it. Meanwhile, the attachments in this life I have deemed worth struggling for. I work a job that I can barely handle as that I may pay rent and be a consistent partner. I am forced to buy what I would never purchase willingly had I not been priced out of more ethical consumption habits. I am subjected to mass surveillance more and more as privacy becomes a privilege with a steeper and steeper price. Money that I cannot aquire without further compromising my values. It already feels like my currently compromised values are pushing me to a breaking point.

I am trying to figure out the balance between capitalist "success" and ethical living. I'm also open to more radical solutions that might exist outside my scope of awareness. And maybe even hearing from like minded individuals would help me feel less like a freak for this perspective.

I realize that this is a touch vague. I will try my best to be responsive in the comments to provide further context upon request.

Thanks for your time y'all.
