Tonsillitis question

Hungarian M17, 186 cm, 73 kg, Caucasian, taking telmisartan 40 mg for elevated blood pressure. Non-smoker, non-drinker, no recreational drugs either.

Recently, I had my first tonsillitis episode a little more than a month ago (July 28th). I was prescribed Aktil Duo 875 mg/125 mg (for 10 days) and ibuprofen. After taking the antibiotics, my symptoms (including pain) went away in about 2 days (Only took ibuprofen in the following two days). I took the whole course of antibiotics I was prescribed.

This weekend (September 6th), my tonsillitis returned. I went to the doctor today and was prescribed the same medication, with an additional referral to an ENT for assessment.

When the first episode occurred, there were no symptoms other than a really sore throat and the usual white spots on the tonsils. (No fever, no headache, and I was also feeling generally well.)

During my current episode (2nd), the symptoms match the first episode, with the additional symptom of enlarged lymph nodes on both sides of my neck and jaw (confirmed by my GP). My temperature is also slightly elevated (37.1°C). My baseline body temperature is closer to 36.5°C. Both temperatures were taken in the armpit.

Neither episodes presented with difficulty swallowing (after taking ibuprofen), breathing, opening my mouth. The first episode lasted about 4-5 days.

No swabs were taken, so we do not actually know whether it is bacterial or viral.

Something that might be of interest is that both times before getting tonsillitis, I had partied with people who later turned out to be sick a few days afterward. Both tonsillitis episodes started 1 day after the party.

Given that this is my second case in a little more than a month, while never having had tonsillitis (or tonsil stones) before, I am a little worried that after my visit to the ENT, I will be pressured into having my tonsils removed.

My questions are:

• Would these recent episodes actually warrant a tonsillectomy?
• How come I have never had issues with my tonsils up until now?
• I have read in a scientific paper that taking antibiotics actually increases the chance of reinfection within 6 weeks. Should I take the antibiotics I was prescribed again? (My GP was adamant that the white spots on my tonsils warrant the use of AB)
