Is my life worth living if I don’t trust anyone?
By this I don’t mean I don’t trust strangers. I don’t think every person who passes me by on the street wants to steal my wallet or anything like that. I’d even go as far as to say I believe most people are decent and we’re all flawed. And I consider myself a good person and would help a stranger if I felt I could do so effectively.
What I’m instead referring to is trust when you have people in your life and open yourself up. So basically friendships and romantic relationships. Because of a repeat of bad experiences, I simply don’t trust people to that degree and is largely why I don’t socialize anymore. I go out and do stuff like go to concerts or grocery shop. I just don’t trust that if I invite someone into my life, they won’t end up hurting me in some fashion, or that I won’t get hurt if something happens to them (i.e. they die in a tragic accident).
I just don’t want to have to deal with all that and yet am wondering, if I continued down this road and would only have my few remaining family members as the only people in my life, if it would be worth it. Or would I basically be screwing my self over because I didn’t want to take the risk that some person I meet doesn’t want to hurt me?
