Mac Motion Designer & Editor dilemma: Dell UltraSharp U2725QE (IPS Black) vs MSI MPG 274URDFW E16M (Mini-LED)?

Question

Hey everyone. I need some advice choosing my next 27" monitor. I'm a motion designer and video editor working primarily on a MacBook (mostly in After Effects and Premiere Pro). Because of macOS scaling, 4K is an absolute must for crisp text and UI. Also, going back to a standard 60Hz screen gives me major OCD after being used to the MacBook's 120Hz display, so a high refresh rate is mandatory. I also want to play next-gen games in my downtime.

I’ve narrowed it down to these two finalists, but I'm torn:

1. Dell UltraSharp U2725QE

  • Specs: 4K, 120Hz, IPS Black (2000:1 contrast).
  • Connectivity: Thunderbolt 4 hub (140W PD, Ethernet, plenty of USB ports).
  • My thoughts: An incredible one-cable docking solution for my Mac. Color accuracy is top-tier, and I get consistent blacks without blooming. However, it's more expensive and lacks true HDR (only DisplayHDR 400).

2. MSI MPG 274URDFW E16M (Dual Mode)

  • Specs: 4K at 160Hz (can switch to 1080p at 320Hz for gaming).
  • Tech: Mini-LED with 1152 dimming zones, DisplayHDR 1000.
  • Connectivity: USB-C with 98W PD.
  • My thoughts: Insane brightness, true HDR, and the dual-mode is amazing for gaming. It's also cheaper than the Dell. But I'm seriously worried about Mini-LED blooming while doing precision design work or color grading on dark UI elements.

Which one would you choose knowing that protecting my professional video work is priority #1, but I still want a flawless gaming experience? Is the blooming on the MSI a dealbreaker for graphic work?

Thanks in advance!
