My apologies for showing my face here again. Recently I posted asking for advice around how to design my kitchen in newly built extension.

The works have finally started and to my disappointment, thanks to thick cavity walls and gaps from the boundary, we will get surprisingly less space than we thought -- only 4.2m wide inside, the garden side wall.

Then my partner had an idea - why not fit kitchen on both sides, instead of cramming it into one corner? (We were against this idea at first but now have to re-evaluate our options)

The first photo was our first idea - kitchen on one side. What I like about it

\- "less" kitchen in the house, since it is occupying one side only.

What I do not like

\- we have to cram everything in those 4.5m and we have to compromise - less working space for food prep, no wide fridge,

\- no easy way to transfer dishes from dish washer to cupboard.

\- do not know what to put on the right side of the house

Basically too less space.

The second photo is the new idea of having kitchen on both sides. That is my quick trial in DYI kitchen planner, and it looks very awful, lighting and colours do not help either. What I like about this:

\- we can now fit everything we want, create better flow

\- bigger patio doors, better view of the garden

What I do not like:

\- more kitchen, it occupies both sides of the house

\- too much space on each side

\- still do not know what to put on the right side of the house

We have to decide rather quick, because works are progressing and builder wants to order various materials. We have a howdens appointment in a few days and don't have any idea how good they are around designing. Wren was not fantastic either but they still do it much better than me.

Third photo is the floor plan if it helps.

Appreciate any thoughts anyone has but otherwise, thanks for reading this.

Can't decide between kitchen layouts - parallel or L shape?
