What if the appeals process is the world’s largest unpaid AI customer service experiment?
Hear me out. Thousands, maybe millions, of actual people keep telling an automated system:
“I’m a real person.”
“I didn’t do what you’re accusing me of.”
“Please have a human look at my account.”
We try again. And again and again. We change the wording, explain ourselves differently, become more specific, more frustrated, more creative.. while the system reads.
Maybe we’ve been spending months trying to convince the AI that we’re human while it has been learning. We thought we were appealing our cases, but maybe we were teaching the machine how to handle us.
For free.
