QIAmini: One thing, many fewer things

Lab can get hectic. Especially in these times. You’ve got experiments to juggle, literature to read, grant applications or conference abstracts or publications or reports or all of the above to write. And that’s just the start of it.

Sometimes you need things that just work, things that just fit. And that’s what this is: QIAmini. It purifies DNA and RNA (sometimes both). It’s one thing that can be many fewer things.

Many fewer things. What does that even mean? QIAmini handles the grind, while you check one of those other million things off your list. So, one fewer thing. And it’s easy to learn and simple to step up. The kits have cartridges prefilled with reagents, which means there are minimal pipetting steps, which means fewer chances that something goes wrong. So again, one fewer thing. For up to eight samples at a time, all you really have to do is prepare them, load and press play.

QIAmini uses magnetic beads to purify nucleic acids, with binding, washing and elution completely handled by the machine – hands-free. It has a login-free app (no password to remember) that can be accessed from a browser (nothing to install). The app is simple to use for protocol selection, tutorials and more. It can be linked to a secure My QIAGEN account to open up more options, and that’s up to you.

Easy loading, easy operation, simple app with no login – that could mean less training time. Which is (for those of you keeping track), yet again one fewer thing, especially if you work in a lab with a lot of student turnover.

And finally, it’s small. QIAmini fits on a sheet of printer paper. So you can put it anywhere, and when it comes time to move it, you don’t need to go on a quest to find the strongest person in your department. See, one fewer thing.

So, one thing that can be many fewer things, right? Shortly put (see what I did there?): Small stature, big results.
