Season 5 seems awful
I discovered the Magnus Archives this summer, back in late July. Since then, I've been binging it. It's on every time I drive anywhere, anytime I walk the dog, and any time I am waiting or killing time. I loved it. I loved the style, I loved the mystery, and I loved the creativity and the originality of the whole thing. In a world where so much is cliché or sequels, this was a breath of fresh air.
14 episodes into Season 5, however, I don't even know if I can finish it. This is brutal. It feels like someone decided to do a remake of Dante's Inferno, but stylistically adapted from the worst tendencies of Brandon Sanderson, Robert Jordan, Steven Erikson or R. Scott Bakker. Listening to 15-20 minutes of self-indulgent exposition on what it's like to be a human worm, to get trapped in a house fire, or be part of a puppet show or something is about as compelling to me as hearing amateur poetry from a troubled teenager.
After 14 episodes, the only on that was even remotely interesting enough to pay attention to was the one about the Mortal Garden. That was a new idea to me, and something that made me squirm. The rest of them were just noise.
Can someone tell me if after getting through the 14 "domains" we actually get back on track, or do I have another 25 episodes of bad poetry ahead of me?
