Non sexual masochism

I wasnt sure how to word the title of my post..

Im a little interested in pain, the little sting i feel from a belt or burning from wax is a little satisfying but its not sexual at all. I sometimes self inflict pain to feel something, sometimes its for gratification and very rarely is it for self punishment.. my boyfriend and i are dabliing in impact play like with wax, ive been whipping myself sometimes every 6 months just to feel a sting id rather do this myself instead of having my bf do it.. my question is am i considered a masochist if I like pain in a non sexual way and if i do it myself?
