I didn't realize how much the base material would affect the final result

I've been thinking about how much the material itself influences a clothing project, especially when you're adding something more than just a basic print.

It's easy to focus on the interesting part first the design, the electronics, the placement, or whatever you're trying to build into the garment. But once you start putting everything together, the actual fabric becomes a pretty important part of the equation.

Something that works perfectly on one material can feel completely wrong on another. The weight, stretch, texture, stitching, and even how the fabric moves can change how the finished piece looks and functions.

I've also found that getting a physical sample matters more than I expected. A digital mockup can give you a good idea of the concept, but it doesn't tell you how the garment will actually feel once you're wearing it or how all the different components will interact with it.

That's made me much more interested in the production side of these projects. It's not just about getting the idea right the materials and construction can either make the idea work or completely change it.

For anyone who works with e-textiles or smart garments, how much do you consider the base garment/fabric before starting the actual electronics or design work? Do you usually choose the material first, or build the concept first and adapt the garment around it?
