One thing people rarely talk about when it comes to “she confessed”

General Discussion

I’m not from the U.S., so could someone please weigh in?

Let’s set aside the question of whether Lindsay actually pleaded guilty or not (from a legal standpoint, in a criminal case; I know she didn’t). Let’s even set aside whether she actually did it or not. I’m only concerned with the procedures.

Even if Lindsay had confessed, gone to court, and said, “YES, I DID IT,” in person. There’s still a possible scenario in which someone was in a state of psychosis at the time - or was not of sound mind - and did not commit the crime. Even if Lindsay had confessed, there still has to be physical evidence, because if there’s a debate over whether she was psychotic or not, then a confession would STILL BE INVALID.

Because, due to mental incapacity, such a confession WOULD BE INVALID ANYWAY. At least in my country. A person who is suspected of being incapable of making decisions due to their mental state cannot simply say, “Yes, I committed a crime,” and be convicted on that basis, wtf
