anemic and menstruating and want to know if this is an emergency

Physician Responded

23F white 5’3” 159 lbs nonsmoking. i take bupropion 300mg and sertraline 25 mg for anxiety and depression.

i’d give all the backstory but reddit deleted my first draft and i don’t have energy to write another. i’ve been iron deficient kind of my whole life so i’m used to always being tired and headachy which is why i never questioned anything, and have been anemic before but never to this extent. experienced cognitive decline over the past 6 months that i attributed solely to depression and anxiety and work stress. but even after getting back on my meds it worsened.

it’s hard to string sentences together or gather my thoughts properly, i barely have a short term memory and i’ve told my friends i feel like i’m in the early stages of dementia because i cant seem to remember anything even details from earlier in the same conversation. my brain feels heavy and like it’s full of cotton wool. so i went to the doctor yesterday after doing bloodwork the day before. it came back that my serum iron is 17, my ferritin is 4, my iron saturation is 4%, and my hemoglobin is 9. i have iron infusions set to start next week. but i’m currently menstruating and have been since sunday night. i gave the blood samples on tuesday…i keep feeling progressively worse.

i can’t tell if my chest hurts or if i’m imagining it. maybe a bit in the very upper left side and sort of in my neck? unsure if i’m short of breath. if it’s that air hunger feeling then yeah a little. i’m definitely dizzy and out of it and very fatigued. my eyes can’t fully focus it seems like. i am very lightheaded. i’m sitting down btw.

i have history of anxiety so i don’t know if i’m overreacting or what. i keep assuming it’s in my head but im finding it very hard to power through my workday (i work from home.) i dunno should i go to the ER?
